  5. 1. The new SC1616/SC1616A sound card uses ESS1688 sound chip rather than
  6.    ESS688. Also took out the OPL3 FM synthesizer as ESS1688 built-in this
  7.    function already. The jumper settings are same as before. Thus, every
  8.    functions will work fine as long as follow a manual description.
  9.  
  10. 2. The new SC1616/SC1616A/SC1630 supports MPU-401 interface under DOS, i.e.
  11.    it can support GM sound effect under DOS. However, please do the following
  12.    steps to produce GM sound:

  14.    1) Make new subdirectoy in C: drive, i.e. 'MD ES1688AP'.
  15.  
  16.    2) Copy subdirectory 'DOSAPI' from Driver Diskette#1 to ES1688AP
  17.       subdirectory i.e. COPY A:\DOSAPI  C:\ES1688AP.
  18.  
  19.    3) CD C:\ES1688AP
  20.  
  21.    4) Execute ESSCFG.EXE file to config your DOS settings. For usage, please
  22.       enter ESSCFG/? for help.

  24.       *** Note: (1) Your ESS1688 DOS settings should be the same Windows settings.
  25.                 (2) Your system will suspend if DOS and Windows setting are
  26.                     different.

  28.    5) Execute ESSVOL.EXE file to adjust Volume. For usage, please enter
  29.       ESSVOL/? for help.
